USB Network Adapter (HW7ACU)

This adapter was a breeze to install on a Windows 7 machine. For simplicity I only installed the driver. I use the Windows utility to operate things with no issues. As an IT professional and an RF engineer, I rate this device a good value and a safe purchase. As-is, it performs much better than the internal adapter on my new, brand-name laptop. The antenna can be replaced with a separately purchased high-gain unit to further extend the range. Hawking Technology describe their products fairly, without over-doing it with mostly meaningless terms like "high-power" and "long-range". Beware some of those cheap USB adapters offering high output power. It's difficult to build reliable RF amplifiers that perform that well, have low self-jamming noise, fit into a tiny enclosure, and still cost only a few dollars to make. Something has to give. Look at what the reputable brand-name adapters are doing for the same price, and don't expect much more from anyone else. What you may get is something that will fail quickly or that really doesn't deliver as promised (based on my experiences with many of these adapters). If you just want a decent wireless adapter at a good price with the ability to attach a high-gain antenna, this is a good choice.

Hawking 2014

 Hawking 2014
For the past fifty years, I have travelled the world studying and lecturing about time and space. This film is a personal journey through my life, told in my own words. Come with me and I will tell you the story of how I became who I am."

The above is found at the beginning of this extraordinary autobiographical documentary about the life of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. (He "was born in 1942, exactly 300 years after the death of Galileo.")

I personally have read quite a bit on Hawking but what made this film special to me was that:

(1) It was entirely narrated by Stephen Hawking.
(2) Brief comments were made by such people as his siblings, care giver, school friends, university friends, professors, software experts, biographers, his first wife, physicists (like Roger Penrose, Kip Thorne), and his present and former students.
(3) We actually get to see Hawking in his natural environment and get to actually see the people mentioned in (2) above.

We also learn about his science ("I was writing the rule book for black holes") and the progression of his devastating illness whose spectre is always present.

We also get to see the good and the bad of worldwide celebrity.

Finally, this documentary had an "intimate feel" for me, as if Hawking were talking directly to me.

In conclusion, I feel this is an incredible documentary narrated by a determined scientist who has a strong will to live. In fact, at the end of the documentary he tells us:

"I'm not afraid of dying, but I'm in no hurry to die."

Hawking Usb Hawking Technology Wireless-N Multifunction USB Printer and Device Server (HMPS2U)

Hawking Usb Hawking Technology Wireless-N Multifunction USB Printer and Device Server (HMPS2U)

  • Easily connect and share your USB Printer, multifunction all-in-one printer or standard printer, to a network
  • Print from any computer over the network
  • Share your USB storage devices: flash drives, hard drives, etc.
  • Airplay supports lets you stream music to a USB speaker from anywhere!
  • Included in the box: One Wireless-N Multi-Function USB Printer & Device Server, One Power Adapter, One Quick Installation Guide, One Installation CD

I have been running this product for about a week. The installation was fairly standard for a network attached device. There is a piece of client software that is installed on the PC that allows you to connect & disconnect from devices attached to the USB ports and a browser connection to attach to the HMPS2U. This allows access to a status page and a configuration page where you have the option of setting up the network connection the way you want.

I have attached 3 printers to the server, 2 label printers and an Epson MFP. All of the printers installed without a problem and I was able to connect to the scanner function on the Epson.

In general I'm happy with the product and it performs functionally as advertised with one small hiccup, it loses connection constantly if left to idle for a short time. There is no function on the Control Center software to re-attach to the server nor can you access the browser configuration page (obviously). I find that the only solution is to power cycle the server and it will show up in the Control Center software after a few seconds. Because of this I can only give it 3 stars, however if there is a future software of firmware upgrade to address this problem or I find new information about the configuration of the device that eliminates this issue, I would have no problem giving the HMPS2U 5 stars.
